Edmonton Vietnamese Wedding Photographer: A Complete Guide to Capturing Your Day

Your wedding day is more than one event. It's a full day of traditions, families coming together, and moments that need to be captured by someone who actually understands them. At TL Portraitz, we've photographed Vietnamese weddings across Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, and beyond. We know the day from the inside out.

We're Tan and Jackie, a husband and wife team based in Edmonton. Tan grew up in the Vietnamese community here, and we've covered everything from intimate backyard tea ceremonies to full 300-guest receptions. If you're planning your wedding and looking for a photographer who understands both the cultural traditions and the modern Canadian celebration, you're in the right place.

What a Vietnamese wedding day actually looks like in Edmonton

Every family does things a little differently, but most Vietnamese weddings we photograph in Edmonton follow a similar flow across one long, meaningful day.

Morning tea ceremony (Lễ Gia Tiên). This usually happens at the bride's parents' home first, then the groom's. It's the most emotional part of the day for most families. Parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles all come forward to give blessings, gold jewelry, and red envelopes. The light inside a family home can be tricky, and the moments move fast. That's exactly why you need a photographer who's done this before and knows where to stand without getting in the way of the ceremony.

Midday portraits. After the tea ceremony, we head out for couple and bridal party portraits. Edmonton has beautiful spots for this. The Alberta Legislature grounds, the river valley, Block 1912, and the Muttart Conservatory are all favourites. We time this around the light and around your outfit changes (most of our brides have both an áo dài and a white gown).

Evening reception. Vietnamese receptions in Edmonton usually happen at large venues like the Edmonton Convention Centre, Chateau Louis, Continental Treat, or Paradise Banquet Hall. The toasts, the speeches, the table-to-table greetings, and the MC games. It's a lot to cover. Our videographer captures the speeches in full so your family overseas can watch later.

Why a Vietnamese-speaking photographer matters on your wedding day

This is the part most couples don't think about until it's too late. A photographer who doesn't understand Vietnamese will miss cues. They won't know when the tea pouring is about to happen. They'll miss the parents' emotional reactions because they don't understand what's being said. They'll photograph the gold jewelry being given but miss the blessing words. They won't know to pause when elders are speaking.

Tan speaks Vietnamese fluently and grew up attending family weddings. That means we can talk directly to your parents, grandparents, and elders in their own language, which makes everyone more relaxed and helps the day flow naturally.

What our Vietnamese wedding packages include

Our full-day Vietnamese wedding coverage typically includes the tea ceremony at both family homes, bridal preparation (with hair and makeup by Jackie if you'd like, our in-house service), couple and bridal party portraits, and reception coverage including speeches, MC games, and first dance. We provide both photography and videography with one coordinated team, a highlight video for social media, and online gallery delivery within 4 to 6 weeks.

Packages for full-day Vietnamese wedding coverage generally start around $3,500 CAD and go up based on hours, second shooter, and film length. We also offer tea-ceremony-only coverage starting around $500 if you're having a smaller celebration.

Frequently asked questions about Vietnamese wedding photography in Edmonton

Do you speak Vietnamese? Yes, Tan speaks Vietnamese fluently. We can communicate directly with parents, grandparents, and elders on your wedding day.

Can you photograph both the tea ceremony and the reception? Yes, that's what most of our couples book. Full-day coverage means one team captures your whole day. There's no handoff and no missed moments.

Do you travel outside of Edmonton? Yes. We've photographed weddings in Calgary, Red Deer, and beyond. Travel fees apply outside the Edmonton metro area.

How far in advance should we book? Our Vietnamese wedding couples typically book 6 to 18 months in advance. Peak season (May through October) fills up first. If your wedding is this year, reach out as soon as possible.

Can Jackie also do bridal hair and makeup? Yes. Jackie is a bridal hair and makeup artist, and many of our couples book both services together for a coordinated experience on the morning of the wedding.

Do you photograph other Asian weddings too? Absolutely. We regularly photograph Filipino, Chinese, and multicultural weddings in Edmonton, including tea ceremonies, church ceremonies, and traditional banquet receptions.
